As the leaves begin to turn golden and the crisp autumn air sets in, it’s time to celebrate one of the most cherished festivals in Hong Kong – the Mid-Autumn Festival. This ancient tradition, also known as the Mooncake Festival, holds a special place in our hearts as it symbolizes family reunions, thanksgiving, and the beauty of the full moon. At this time of year, we want to extend our warmest wishes to our valued clients and partners who have made our journey so bright and fruitful. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

The Significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival:
The Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, has a rich history that dates back over 3,000 years. Traditionally, it was a time for farmers to celebrate the harvest and offer gratitude to the moon goddess Chang’e for her blessings. Today, it is a time for families to gather, exchange mooncakes, light lanterns, and admire the luminous full moon.

At this juncture, we want to express our deepest appreciation for your trust and support. Just as the Mid-Autumn Festival brings families together, your partnership has brought us closer to our goals. It is through your collaboration and unwavering commitment that we have achieved success. We look forward to more fruitful collaborations in the future.

One of the most delightful aspects of the Mid-Autumn Festival is the tradition of giving and receiving mooncakes. These sweet delicacies symbolize unity and togetherness. We hope that the joy of giving and sharing spreads far and wide during this festive season.

As we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, we also look ahead to the future. Just as the full moon shines brightly, we aim to continue illuminating our path toward excellence. Your trust is the guiding light that inspires us to reach for the stars, and for that, we are truly grateful.

In the spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival, we extend our warmest wishes for happiness, prosperity, and good health to you and your loved ones. May this season be a time of joyful reunions, meaningful moments, and renewed hope. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Salone del Mobile Milano – Shanghai edition https://artwill.com.hk/7965/ Sat, 22 Feb 2020 07:18:05 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7965 Read more]]> Every year, I travel to Milan for the Salone del Mobile Milano, an internationally known exhibition displaying the latest trends in design and furniture.  With China being one of the most represented foreign countries among visitors to the event in Milan, the Salone organizers started hosting a Shanghai edition. I attended the 4th annual session at the Shanghai Exhibition Center last November.

These events showcases a wide range of design and creativity and I love attending to draw inspirations, learn new ideas, and meet like-minded artists. Although the Shanghai event was smaller in scale than Milan, it actually allowed me to explore and discover several interesting companies I had missed in Italy.

One such company was Rubelli, a textiles design house with fabrics manufactured in Como, Italy. Its collection of rich and high quality fabrics, strikes an equal balance of traditional and contemporary with textures, use of patterns and colours.

One of the fun surprises I had was with Rubelli’s bucket chair. In a variety of different fabrics, the chair at first, seems like an unassuming lump. But on closer examination, it’s a comfortable chair molding to your body. It’s certainly a fun piece to add to my designs in the future.

Happy New Year from Artwill https://artwill.com.hk/happy-new-year-from-artwill/ Sat, 22 Feb 2020 07:13:45 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7957 Read more]]> Every year, I reflect on the past year and set my New Year’s resolution. One area that I am eager to improve on is my impact to society, in particular how to be more green and environmentally conscious.

During the Christmas season, I participated in a fun and meaningful event, Check-in fun, hosted by Infinitus Plaza and World Green Organization, Environmental Christmas. Artwill partnered with Nomad Interior Design to create our piece, ‘Cherish Christmas’.

To create a festive scene, we recycled common household waste and old items, giving it a second life as Christmas decorations. You must have a tree and Santa for Christmas! We used plastic water bottles to create a beautiful, crystal tree. Strung with old lights, the tree glistens and shines as if out in the snow. With all the shopping I did for 11-11 and Christmas, I had many packing boxes, large and small, sitting around. But outfitted with some old clothing and accessories, these boxes magically transformed into Santa and his snowmen.

I hope you are inspired by how we recycled and reused materials to create this magical scene. I know I’m inspired to share more green tips with you all in 2020!

This trip really opened my eyes to the brand history, design philosophy, and dedication of Giorgetti and Poliform.  After seeing their production facilities, I know I can continue to trust their products for their superior designs and quality.

The showrooms in Italy are much bigger and I got to see many of the pieces in person, which I could only view in the catalogue in Hong Kong.  Being able to experience and interact with the furniture will help me better incorporate them into my design projects.

If you’re interested in their products, do visit their showroom in Hong Kong.

Traveling for inspiration Italy – Poliform Lab https://artwill.com.hk/traveling-for-inspiration-italy-poliform-lab/ Wed, 14 Aug 2019 16:05:48 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7807 Read more]]> Last month, I had the pleasure to be invited by Giorgetti S.p.A. to participate in their Prestige tour in Milan.  While in Italy, we also visited Poliform’s showroom and factory, Poliform Lab.

Poliform is an international furniture brand with a contemporary look.  Their lines are simple and clean.  They are well known for their broad range of furnishings and systems of bookcases, wardrobes, and beds.

Poliform Lab is a new concept of production.  Their factory is busier and produce higher volumes than Giorgetti’s factory.  But they still adhere to the highest quality.  Poliform has invested significantly in the newest technology.  Their factory is equipped with large production machines to improve efficiency and maintain quality.  The final touches, such as the final sanding and inspection, is still done by hand, increasing my trust of their products.

Traveling for inspiration Italy – Giorgetti (Part 3) https://artwill.com.hk/traveling-for-inspiration-italy-giorgetti-part-3/ Wed, 14 Aug 2019 15:54:28 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7790 Read more]]> Last month, I had the pleasure to be invited by Giorgetti S.p.A. to participate in their Prestige tour in Milan. Right in the middle of the city, we visited Giorgetti’s new showroom format, Giorgetti Atelier.

Atelier isn’t your classic showroom, it’s a reproduction of an elegant home environment. Every room in your home can be found here – the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. It lets you see and feel what your home can look like. Even the partition you see in the picture is designed and produced by them.

Everything in Atelier is furnished by Giorgetti, from the furniture to the lighting to the décor accessories. Once again, you see their unique ‘Giorgetti style’, with their modern but elegant designs and distinctive curved lines. Giorgetti offers products to furnish every part of the home.

Traveling for inspiration – Giorgetti (Part 2) https://artwill.com.hk/traveling-for-inspiration-giorgetti-part-2/ Tue, 09 Jul 2019 13:11:27 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7723 Read more]]> Last month, I had the pleasure to be invited by Giorgetti S.p.A. to participate in their Prestige tour in Milan. We had the pleasure to tour their factory and see how each piece of furniture is made with care.

It was fascinating to visit Giorgetti’s factory and see how their pieces are wholly made in Italy. The facility was not large because the production of each product is limited, guaranteeing their quality and exclusiveness. You could see the workers enjoyed their work and paying special attention to the quality, because they considered it an art.

Giorgetti is committed to using high quality wood and materials. I learned that they store their wood a full year before making it into furniture, to ensure it creates a solid and stable piece. Take a look at the chairs – it has the unique ‘Giorgetti style’, the curved wooden arms and back. 20+ pieces of wood are required and carefully assembled to make this signature curve.

Traveling for inspiration (Italy-Giorgetti ) Part 1 https://artwill.com.hk/traveling-for-inspiration-italy-giorgetti-part-1/ Thu, 13 Jun 2019 03:27:06 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7706 Read more]]> Last month, I had the pleasure to be invited by Giorgetti S.p.A. to participate in their Prestige tour in Milan. I had the opportunity to learn about their brand history, their design philosophy, and their dedication to art and craftmanship. In my next few postings, I’ll tell you more about what I learned of this 120-year-old family brand.

Giorgetti is a luxury Italian brand producing functional, contemporary pieces of furniture with the unique ‘Giorgetti style.’ I often incorporate their pieces in my projects because of its beauty and trusted quality. Their pieces have a modern yet elegant look and their commitment in using high quality wood, leather, and other materials make their pieces long-lasting.

Headed by CEO Giovanni del Vecchio, with experience in luxury brands like Prada and Ferragamo, and with new investments from private equity, Giorgetti hopes to expand their brand in Asia and to better serve their global customers.

Small spaces for the new couple https://artwill.com.hk/small-spaces-for-the-new-couple/ Sun, 12 May 2019 15:04:57 +0000 https://artwill.com.hk/?p=7615 Read more]]> This 380-sq.ft. love nest was designed for a newlywed couple, their starter home.  Space planning was the ultimate challenge in this small apartment.  With structural beams, a dropped ceiling, and electric rolling blinds, I found new ways to define borders without walls.

A multi-functional area serves as dining room, home office, or a relaxation area.  The bay window is leveraged to create an L-shaped table that functions as a dining table and a writing desk.

The bathroom is the main focus for both the owners and the designer. Even though this crystal room serves as the centerpiece, its glass walls ensure the views inside the flat remain unobstructed. Glass partitions with back-lit black skirting at the foot of the walls create a dreamy bathroom. The tailor-made Corian countertop in the bathroom, constructed of a single slab of engineered stone, strikes a resonance to the concept of deconstruction of the whole apartment into a singular entity.
